What should I do if my last campaign had a high bounce rate?

Post by Mitu962 »

Having a high bounce rate on your email marketing campaigns is scary. It's an indicator that there's something terribly wrong with your latest campaign, as you realize that people aren't receiving your emails. It's so scary that it's similar to that classic scene in horror movies where a character disappears and no one knows how or why. However, the fear comes from not knowing what caused the problem, so just like in horror movies, what we need to do is investigate what happened, as it could be scarier than it seems.

Check your Contacts
The first thing you should india phone number list can boost your business do is review the bounced emails to identify any possible patterns within the returned emails. Are they all from the same domain? Are they all hard bounces? By “hard bounce” I mean emails that are bounced because the address no longer exists. On the other hand, there are also “soft bounces” which occur when the email address is valid but the inbox is full or there was some kind of technical problem and, consequently, the message could not be sent. If you notice that there is indeed a pattern, then it will be easier to find the fault. However, if there is no pattern, it will not hurt to have checked, or at least not yet.

Bounce Records
Every time an email is sent to an email address, a record is generated that will be returned to the sender. This record is known as a “bounce record” or SMTP record, which will inform the sender whether the email sent was successfully delivered or whether it was bounced. It is important to mention that in case of finding bounces, the SMTP system will not indicate whether they were “hard” or “soft” but it will generate a code that will help us determine what type of bounce occurred. In the end, reviewing your contacts will result in a clue and bounce records as evidence. The evidence could be conclusive and actionable or, on the contrary, insufficient. If this were to be the case, you will need to look for more evidence to get a clearer picture of what is happening.
