The origin of Web & Site

Web is an English word that means “web” or “network”. With the emergence of the internet, the word “web” gained another meaning as the network that connects computers around the world, the World Wide Web , the famous “ WWW ”.
History
In 1980, Timothy John Berners-Lee , a British physicist, built ENQUIRE, a system that aimed to make it easier to share research papers among colleagues, but could not be released to the general public.
Then in 1990, with the help of a Belgian computer scientist, Robert Cailliau , they implemented the first successful communication between an HTTP client (the basis for WWW data communication) and the server over the Internet. For this, a NeXTcube computer was used by Berners-Lee as the first web server and also to write the first browser, the World Wide Web, in 1990.
All of this was developed at CERN, the French abbreviation for “Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire”, which translates to the European Organization for Nuclear Research. By the end of the same year, Berners-Lee had already built all the tools necessary for the system.
On August 6, 1991 , the Web debuted as a service linkedin data published on the Internet. The World Wide Web was not proprietary software with exclusive rights for the producer, unlike previous systems such as HyperCard, thus making it possible to create other systems and extensions without the concern of licensing.
It is worth noting that Hypercard was launched in 1987 as an application program created by Bill Atkinson for Apple Computer. It was one of the first successful hypermedia systems before the emergence of the WWW.
On April 30, 1993, CERN announced that the World Wide Web would be open to all, at no cost. A month earlier, one of the first graphical web browsers, ViolaWWW, was released, which was based on HyperCard. It was the first mainstream WWW browser to support scripted objects, style sheets, and tables.
However, the big turning point for the WWW was the introduction of the Mosaic browser in 1993 , a graphical browser developed by a team of university developers at the University of Illinois. Mosaic is known as the first WWW browser and the first to be used on Windows, thus opening the Web to the general public.
Now, let's talk about Website. What is a Website?
Site is an English word that means “place”, “site”. The award-winning Berners-Lee compared his creation, the Web, to a web, and each node of this web is a virtual location where there are hypertexts, which are texts, graphics and multimedia information. Therefore, when people wanted to refer to a place on the web, they spoke of a Web Site.
So, combining the words and the whole concept of “Web + Site”, we have the Website . A new name has emerged to designate this concept of a node where there is a set of hypertexts. Cool, huh?!
To put it into more detail, a website is an electronic set or electronic site with a collection of web pages organized and located on a server on the network. In other words, a set of hypertexts accessible via the HTTP or HTTPS protocol on the Internet.
